Passion isn’t a one way street.
It isn’t all butterflies and rainbows; I don’t have warm and fuzzy feelings about writing all the time.
Writing thrills me. Writing is the only thing I’ve done for as far back as I can remember. Even when I hate it, I love it. It beckons me, taunts me and often, makes me feel like Wonder Woman. Sometimes, I don’t feel like writing. Sometimes, the muses abandon me and I spend many torturous hours staring at my computer or at my notepad. Most of the time, I have strokes of genius at the wrong time.
I started this blog the same reason everyone else does: because I liked writing but didn’t want to be bothered with the tedious task of trying to get a book deal. It was free and it could be done on my time, which (up until recently) was constantly divided by an entire life outside of writing. As time went on, everything else became more important and my writing suffered, which made me suffer.
Now, I’m working on dedicating my time to my writing. Maybe I will sit down and write something and get a book deal. Maybe Oprah will love, love, love it and put it on her Book List. Maybe Ava DuVernay will read my blog and hire me to write her next movie. Wherever writing takes me, I’m down for the ride.
